I will supply all the fishing equipment that you will need, however
you are most welcome to use your own should you prefer. It is a good
idea to discuss this with me first to ensure that your gear is suitable
for local conditions.
Fishing Rods
Throughout summer on back country streams we tend to use 5 – 7
weight rods and during winter on the big rivers we move up to 7 – 9
weight rods.
Flies
Some flies that I like to use in differing conditions and seasons.
| Season |
Type |
Size |
Examples |
|
| Summer | Dry Flies | 8 – 16 | • Caddis • Cicada • Royal Wulff |
| Nymphs | 10 – 16 | • Any bead-heads are fine • Hare and copper • Pheasant tail
|
| Smelt flies | 4 – 10 | • Parsons Glory • Grey Ghost |
|
| Winter | Nymphs | 10 – 16 | • Same as summer (above) • Glo-bug |
| Wet Flies | 2 – 8 | • Red Setter (my old favourite) • Woolly Bugger • Rabbit • Booby
|
Waders
During the warm summer months the choice is yours between breathable
light weight waders and wading wet (I prefer to wade wet). It’s
a different story during the winter though – give me those
warm neoprene jobs any day!
